ARTIST STATEMENT
Everyday objects are the foundation of my art practice. The use of concrete, readymades, assembling and disassembling objects into artwork. This act and choice of materials is purposeful as it ties closely into my Filipino-American heritage of “using what you have”. Concrete, which is widely used in my practice, is not just for the accessibility and reliability to the working class, but the physical and conceptual heaviness it adds to a piece. Immigration, classism, and colonialism are intertwined throughout each work as these topics cannot exist without the other. Exploring these ideas by using materials that live in my environment reflect my current state of being.
